The walking wounded (NOT from war, thank heaven!)

Apparently, my usual non-leather shoes and my feet are no longer compatible--on Monday evening, I limped all the way to Tisha B'Av services and all the way home.   The minute we got back to our apartment, I switched to the only other pair of non-leather shoes I own, other than my bedroom slippers and flip-flops--the waterproof sandals that every visitor gets at the Cave of the Winds.  The front strap bears the legend "Cave of the Winds," and the heel strap reads "Niagara Falls State Park."  Maybe I'll wear them for Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).  Real chic for shul.  Not.  :)

Miami Al, I'm not sure Crocs would work for me--I need shoes in which my feet can't slide, so footware with laces or velcro work better for me. But I'm glad to hear that, when non-leather shoes are required, non-chic shoes are accepted in some places. Why make oneself even more uncomfortable when fasting?

Also, I can't wear rubber shoes--I really need shoes that "breathe," lest I practically past out from overheating--so even some of Crocs' more chic styles probably wouldn't work for me.

I'd say wearing those (and therefore not buying another pair) is more in keeping with YK than buying another pair without "advertising" just for the occasion.
